Horse mackerel is a streamlined, fast-swimming fish that grows rapidly. By the first autumn after spring spawning, horse mackerel are typically around 15 cm in length – and can reach up to 60 cm in total.
Horse mackerel is harvested all year round in the Eastern Central Atlantic (FAO 34), off the coast of West Africa.
Horse mackerel is caught with a mid-water pelagic trawl.
