A smaller relative of cod, Alaska pollock is part of one of the world’s largest commercial fisheries in the North Pacific.
Alaska pollock spawn from between 3 and 4 years, producing from 500,000 to 15 million eggs. Some Alaska pollock grow up to 80 cm long, and live for around 15 years.
Alaska pollock is mainly harvested in the northern Pacific Ocean, in the Sea of Okhotsk West Bering Sea, FAO area 61.
Alaska pollock is caught with a mid-water pelagic trawl (OTM).
