A diamond-shaped flatfish, Pacific halibut live on or near the bottom of the ocean.
Pacific halibut is one of the largest species of flatfish, growing up to 225 kg and 2.5 metres long. Compared to other flatfishes, Pacific halibut are particularly elongated, with a typical width that’s one third of typical length.
Pacific halibut is harvested in the Sea of Okhotsk and West Bering Sea, in the North Pacific Ocean, FAO area 61.
Pacific halibut is caught with an autoline longline system.
