Typically found in coastal areas, sardine can form schools of up to 10 million fish and 4 miles long.
Sardine feed on small planktonic animals, and scatter large numbers of pelagic eggs. Pacific sardines grow up to 40 cm, and live to about 13 years.
Sardine can be found across the North Atlantic Ocean at any time of year. Our sardine are harvested in the Central East Atlantic Ocean (FAO area 34).
Sardine is caught with a mid-water pelagic trawl (OTM).
